I have fielded a few questions lately about why can’t the site do this trick or why doesn’t it have that feature. The answer is usually pretty simple: I didn’t think to add the feature, but that is usually not a problem because you should be able to add the feature to your site.
Here are a few of the questions I have received.
What software does AWinaBox run on?
I built Author Website in a Box using a WordPress theme and WordPress plugins. Everything in the site is standard off the shelf software, which means you can change the site’s look by changing the theme, or add features by installing plugins.
Which WP theme do you use?
The newest v3.0 version of Author Website in a Box uses the Astra theme. I think it’s the best and most versatile free WP theme.
The older v2.0 version of AWinaBox is built on Divi, a popular WP theme. I prefer it; but it is harder to learn, which is why I replaced it.
How are the pages built?
The newest v3.0 version of Author Website in a Box uses the Elementor pagebuilder. I chose this pagebuilder because many of the SF conventions I’ve volunteered use it (it’s proven to be the easiest pagebuilder to learn).
The older v2.0 version of AWinaBox use Divi’s pagebuilder tool to design and build each page. This tool is included, and you can use it to modify my work or build a page from scratch.
Wait, where's the bookshelf plugin?
I didn’t use one. I don’t think they are required any more to build an author site, and in fact, I have found that I can build a better site without a bookshelf plugin.
You can still add one if you like. Mooberry MyBookTable is the one I see the most, probably because it’s easy to set up.

I also recommend either Peopleshost.com (cheap, withe xcellent service for the price) or Siteground.com (ppricy, but really good service).
How do I do BLANK?
I have a set of tutorials for the older version of AWinaBox, but for the newer version I am going to instead suggest that you search Youtube for explainer videos using keywords such as “how to”, Astra, Elementor, and the feature you need help with.
